Spiderman

Abbas, The Boy Who Wanted To Be Spiderman.

When we first met Abbas, he was a silent fighter in battle with cancer. He was a superhero in his own right. So it made sense that when we talked to him to understand his deepest innermost dream, we found out that he wanted to be a superhero. Not just any superhero.. SPIDERMAN

So our Dream Team put their creative juices to work, and became architects of Abbas' dream. We rented out an entire cinema for a special showing of the latest Spiderman movie. The show was packed with our amazing supporters and their children, who all made great big signs with Abbas' name for what's about to come. Halfway through the show, we staged a robbery where a super-villain would come and steal the bag of one of our members who Abbas became quite fond of. It was at that point that Abbas' hero, Spiderman, made an appearance. With the help of our local Spiderkid Abbas, who was wearing a full Spiderman costume, they stopped the villain and retrieved the bag to its rightful owner in front of a cheering crowd.

Abbas then went out and was surprised to be received by all his fans who were in the cinema, and the many more who came to congratulate him on his brave achievement. Local TV coverage, professional photographers, cheering crowds with signs, the whole nine yards. Our shy little superhero became very sociable and had a huge smile on his face. His parents and family were also in a much needed state of happiness when they saw their little fighter smiling and living his dream after his long battle.

His parents told us that he did not want to take off his costume for days, and that the smile that had been missing for a while was now planted on his face for everyone to see.

That's the kind of result we work day and night for. That's what being a supporter of Dreams Society is all about.
